Worktop choices

Choosing the worktop in your kitchen can seem daunting at first, with so many materials and colours on offer. However, once you understand the basics it’s really quite straightforward. We’ve provided some helpful information to make the process as easy as possible.

There are certain worktop materials which are popular for good reason, they can be split into 5 main categories: quartz, granite, corian, wood and laminate. Each has its benefits and limitations and the choice will often be influenced by your budget.

Quartz

Quartz is beautiful, functional and hygienic and the worksurfaces are composed of over 90% natural quartz crystal together with a resin. It means they are stain, scratch and impact resistant. Silestone are the biggest and arguably best manufacturer of quartz worktops, and our preferred supplier, they offer over 60 colours and provide a 25 year guarantee.

Laminate

One material that’s really revolutionised the market is laminate. It’s easy to assume that because it’s the lowest priced work surface material it won’t create the wow factor, but this is not the case. The latest designs, edge profiles and textures really show off the latest trends.

Granite

For a completely natural finish, granite suits classic as well as contemporary schemes and as the stone is quarried, no two slabs are the same. Take your pick from high gloss, honed, leathered and textured but always use a chopping board to protect it from hot pans and knives.
