Lucky horseshoe

Kitchen design is rarely straight forward. Sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board until it’s perfect.

But on the occasions that you do, the final design usually speak for themselves.

We recently fitted the kitchen below for a lovely customer in Solihull.  The kitchen designer was quite honest and said “it took a few attempts before I was happy with the design”.

There is a structural pillar in the centre of the room which determined to some extent how the kitchen could be designed. The designer had a lightbulb moment and scrapped his original design ideas, which had incorporated a large rectangular island, and designed the striking U-shape island seen in the CAD image below.

The island looked like a horseshoe on the plan and turned out to be lucky, as we were the only designers to consider a U-shaped island as a design concept. The customer later advised us that she had visited a number of kitchen design companies and no-one had come up with a design which worked in the space.

When we returned to photograph the kitchen the customer had been using the space for a few weeks and was thrilled with how the design was working. There is a wealth of worktop space for food preparation and the hob and sink are in easy reach, making cooking a pleasure.

The kitchen is also a great space for entertaining; the breakfast bar extends from the island allowing guests or family to sit and relax but still engage with whoever is cooking. The cook can stand in the centre of the island with full access to the kitchen, views of the garden and most importantly without people getting under the feet!

Making sure the beautiful views of the garden were in plain site was also a priority. Both the seating area and the island are facing the wonderful bi-fold doors, light pours in and creates a relaxing space for cooking, dining and entertaining.

The customer chose handleless gloss white from our Futura collection, and paired it with Silestone worktops, a Quooker Fusion boiling water tap and Siemens appliances for an elegant and effortlessly contemporary style.

One of the best ways to find inspiration for a new kitchen project is to look at recent installations. We feature our recent projects on our website to fully showcase the quality of our work.
